Martin graduated with MSc (Materials Chemistry) from University College Cork in 1998. After a period lecturing in the Physics Department at Cork Institute of Technology, he moved to the Department of Geosciences at Eberhard Karls University of Tuebingen, Germany in 2001. In 2006, Martin moved to Fraunhofer IMM (then known as Institute of Micro-technology Mainz), situated in Mainz, Germany, where he was employed as research scientist in the Department of Chemical Processing Technology. In 2010, Martin was appointed Acquisition Manager for the Department of Energy Technology, at the same organisation with primary responsibility for business development (both public and industrial funding). In 2014, Martin was appointed as EU programme officer at Tyndall with primary responsibility for proposals in the fields of energy efficiency, low-carbon energy technologies and nanomaterials for application in diverse sectors such as the building, fuel, grid and renewable sectors and has supported projects worth over 110 M€ in total funding. Martin was previously involved in programme development for the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking and is the current Irish delegate for COST action TD1406 “Innovation in Intelligent Management of Heritage Buildings”. Martin is the author of 26 peer-reviewed papers, mainly in the area of micro-reactor engineering for energy technology applications and is also an evaluator for Horizon 2020 proposals.
